Really is a no transfer, no mess mascara5
As noted by most of the other reviewers, I had a continuing problem with my mascara smudging and leaving rings under my eyes. I also did not like the black stains regular mascara would leave on my washcloth even after using make-up remover. I read all of the reviews and, even though this mascara costs more than I would normally spend, I decided to give it a try. I am happy to be able to say that it performs beautifully. It goes on easily, and comes off like a dream. I have been using it every day for over 3 months and have not ever had it come off before I took it off (although I admit, I don't cry often and don't make a practice of rubbing my eyes throughout the day, so my experience may be different from other reviewers). It is true that it does not "bulk up" your lashes like some mascara do, but you can get more than thin, spiky lashes, as described by other reviewer, if you take your time. Just give the mascara a few seconds to "dry" a little after removing the applicator from the tube and then apply from base to tip of lash. Coat the top of the lash also. Do not over apply the first coat. I don't get clumps, but it would be easy enough to separate any you get before the first coat dries. Apply a second coat,if needed, after the first coat dries. Then stop worrying about your mascara for the rest of the day (or even overnight).

In my experience with this mascara, I have had no eyelashes fall out when removing it. It comes off very easily by just splashing your face with water a few times to get your eyes really wet and then just lightly rubbing your eyelashes. Keep splashing water and don't let the area dry out until everything has come off. Then just dry your face and you'll be surprised at how clean your eyes are.

If you really can't stand black racoon mascara under your eyes, this mascara is well worth the price.

Great mascara!4
This mascara is great, it's easy to remove with a little warm water, but the best thing about it is that it won't give you 'racoon eyes'. There's no dis-coloration of the skin around the eyes. It also keeps looking great all through the day, no need to re-apply it.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is, that even though they come in different colors, they all look more black than colored when dry. So the color doesn't stand out enough.
Still, I can highly recommend it.

You WON'T Believe your eyes!5
Gals--you won't believe your eyes--literally! I had NO EYELASHES to speak of. I have tried every mascara there is--including expensive ones like Jane Iredale--to little avail. Just stubbly, almost non-existent eyelashes. Until I tried Kiss Me mascara. It's different--it goes on lightly--thinly. You can hardly see it at first. You let it dry for a moment--and it will form little tubes around each eyelash. Apply and let dry. Apply and let dry again and, VOILA--you will have beautiful, long, natural-looking lashes--no clumping, no smudging--in fact, this stuff won't go anywhere until you rub your eyes lightly with water. Then you see the little tubes slide off--it's cool. Kiss me mascara is not cheap--but is worth every penny. Let me know if it works for you! Nicely lashed girl, Tumeric

Good For Starters...2
A fairly good book, though she seems to have you put on too much make-up. "Foundation is neccesary" etc...when I used her tips I looked good, but a bit made-up! It has great tips, though, and is definitely a good starting book! For a more every-day book, with good tips and stuff, I would get Kevyn Aucoin's "Making Faces."

A Must For All Make-Up Students!4
What a great book! I am a professional Make-Up artist who both lectures make-up at a modelling academy and a Make-Up & Hairdressing Academy and does freelance work. This book provides information for both levels of education. Chapters on Tools of Trade and how to look after them are a must. Once you read through this chapter, move on to learn about make-up products and application techniques. There are sections about analyising the facial structure, undertones of skin, as well as making the most of these attributes. Learn how to create certain looks for different occasions. This book is wonderful for discovering the basics of make-up application and the basic concepts of colour in make-up application. I wish this book was around when I did my make-up course!

The Make-Up Book4
This book is really a must have for any and all people that wear or apply make-up. It shows you a wide array of techniques, color uses, and how NOT to waste your money on tools. If you want only one book about make-up, to learn everything, and not to spend too much, this is the book to get.

Save Your Money1
When anyone would say that a fragrance smelled like bug spray I always wondered how that could be. Would the makers of the fragrance not test, test and retest to make sure that they manufactured a wonderful smelling scent? Now I know, they don't. This smells like bug spray. That's what I get for purchasing a fragrance without giving it a try first. I thought sure that although it might not be my all time favorite at least it would smell decent. It does'nt. I wouldn't even be able to use it as a room freshener unless I wanted my guests to think I sprayed for cockroaches. Ah well, you live and learn. Please, go try this out before you buy!

Desert Dust - Desert Dust - Rose - Rose
From Desert Dust

Desert Dust - Rose for very fair complexions. For best results, allow a moisturizer or foundation to set for a few minutes. As Bronzer, sweep lightly all over face with brush. Concentrate on cheekbones, temples, forehead, nose and chin. As Blush, apply lightly to the apple of the cheeks using diagonally upward strokes and blend well near the hairline.

Great All in one Bronzer Cosmetic.5
I must tell you again that I really love Desert Dust. I do not wear any foundation, base, or any other makeup it is the only thing I will put on my face.

Works, but the price?5
I have a good complexion. I've taken care of my skin, but I had some light colored chemical depilatory areas, and I wanted them to fade away. I used this for abotu a week, or 2, and my discorlored areas are almost gone. I do quesiton the price...but my complexion has improved where I wanted it to. When aapplying the serum, only use a tiny amount, it goes a long way. I can tell immediately, cause my face brightens after applying. Also, it tingles, which is an indication it's working. I'd not spend $65.00 on other brand names, but if it's by Peter Thomas Roth, I know it's a good product. I'm pleased, and I'll buy it again. I bought mine at Sephora's.

I love it.....5
I love this serum.. My face feels great when I put it on. You can tell the difference already. My face seems brighter. I would recommnend to all my friends.

Read My Lips: A Cultural History of Lipstick
By Meg Cohen, Karen Kozlowski

Freud dug it; Marilyn wouldn't leave home without it. Lipstick: It's an icon, a turn-on, an international symbol of the feminine mystique. Today it finds its place in history.

Review
The authors trace the popular cosmetic from B.T. (Before Tube), when cavewomen stained their lips with berries, to RuPaul 'lamming it up for M.A.C. Two snaps for the photos: a red-lipstick sandwich on white bread, black-and-white shots of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor lining their lips...Anyone who was ever fascinated by the tiny tube in their mother's purse will want to take a long look. -- Out

About the Author

Karen Kozlowski is a stylist and writer in San Francisco. She shoplifted her first lipstick a pink gloss by Maybelline. Today she gladly pays full retail.

Like some women- very pretty to look at but short on brains1
I was attracted to the cover of the book, which is its strong point. Once inside, there are more colorful pictures to look at, and I think the publisher would have been more wise to call it READ MY LIPS: A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF LIPSTICK rather than a CULTURAL HISTORY OF LIPSTICK. The style of writing is really more in line with magazine fashion writing, which I understand is the profession of the two authors of the book. I disagree with a previous review that this is a "must have for the serious fashion minded" customer. This is far too "Cutesy" and written with too much of an attempt to be hip. For the truly serious fashion minded person, there are a few semi academic yet also highly accessible books on makeup, including FASHIONS IN MAKEUP by Richard Corson, which the truly serious fashion minded have always known to be an excellent source of cultural/historical information... and it is not written with the "cuteness" that is present here. The total text, when the pictures are deleted, must be only about 15 pages. That, I believe, is an article, not a book.

Vapid, stupid and tiresomely "hip".1
Chronicle Books titles tend to be pretty to look at but short on content, but this one has to be the ultimate. You'd have to be an idiot to spend money on what is one long Vogue article.

Not just a pretty face!5
When I saw that this had not gotten very good ratings from other reviewers, I had to speak out (or, um, write)! I bought this book for myself at a sale several years ago, and have nearly worn it out looking at it and reading it over and over again! I also later bought a copy for a friend who saw mine and loved it as much as I do. Read My Lips is full of luscious photos that make me feel happy to look at, and are also good for inspiring makeup looks for yourself or your friends. Plus, I love the historical info about what my grandma's (and women from even farther back) lipstick may have been made out of, and what people thought about it. The authors give you all this material without making you feel like you're reading a textbook. This is a fun and fascinating book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in makeup!

Almay intense i-color Eyeliner, Bring Out the Green, Raisin Quartz
From Almay

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #241866 in Health and Beauty
  • Brand: Almay

It Truly Makes The Eyes Pop5
I have tried several other eyeliners that supposedly accentuate the eyes and this is by far the best that I have tried. It truly does make my eyes 'pop'. It doesn't look extravagant, there isn't an obvious color difference, but it's there. My husband even noticed a difference in my eyes, but couldn't put his finger on it.

I also experiment with their other colors for a different look but this is the best color for me as far as eyeliner, but even though their matching mascara is great and I have no complaints about it, I prefer mixing colors. I use other colored i-colors like for blue or even brown or hazel. I think it the contrast in makeup makes the eyes pop even more.

Another plus for Almay is that they're hypoallergenic and with my sensitivity, that is often mandatory

Smashbox Bionic Mascara

What it is:An innovative ionic mascara. What it does:Smashbox Bionic is the first ionic mascara-it will leave you with longer, stronger, and more voluminous lashes! The specially-engineered brush coats lashes with our revolutionary long-wearing, water-resistant formula for a dramatic full lash. Aloe, silk, and wheat protein strengthen and condition.

Great, long lashes - but needs improvement3
I use a lot of Smashbox's cosmetics and have been very satisfied with them. And I love how long and full this mascara makes my lashes look, but there are a few things that are problematic.

I don't know if it was just the particular tube I got or what but it was not uncommon for major clumps of mascara to come onto the brush (which I had to whipe off before applying). While it stays on during my workouts when I get very wet and sweaty - the mascara smudges off if you happen to rub your eye. If you accidently fall asleep with it on you will surely wake up with raccoon eyes.

I would not buy this again, despite the fact it makes my eyelashes look amazing, I can't go around worrying that I might unwittingly rub my eye and unknowingly have black marks on my face. And if I wake up after a romantic evening, I don't want the man I'm laying next to to wake up to raccoon eyes.

I've heard amazing things about the Diorshow mascara so I am going to go with that. I heard it doesn't come off until you take it off.

Long Lasting Buildable Formula4
Smashbox Bionic Mascara comes in a standard tube with a large wand for applying the product. The product goes on evenly with a few sweeps for nice definition but there is not a lot of visible volume or length after the first application. Apply a second coat and lashes get longer and fatter without a lot of clumping. I work 11-12 hour days and this mascara lasts for me, no flaking or raccoon eyes. The formula washes off with soap and water or if you prefer a friction free makeup remover you can use an oil. I used mineral oil but baby oil or olive oil would work just as well.

To prevent flaking or smudging be sure to put powder on your lower lid before applying any mascara. I use mica powder but any oil free makeup powder will do the trick. Oil will break down mascara and other eye makeup so if I put moisturizer all over my face and it gets on my lashes, the mascara can't last as long. I think that may be why some people are not getting as much performance out of this mascara.

I took off one star because I don't like the size of the wand, I wish it were a little bit smaller. Overall this is a good product. Smashbox Bionic Mascara doesn't beat my favorite mascara which is Body Shop Divide and Multiply, but it is really close.

Save your money or go for waterproof2
I got this in a kit, but wouldn't buy on its own again. It is only water resistant but hard enough to remove to be waterproof, so I have to use a waterproof eyemakeup remover to get it off. It was hard to work with to get it to look good. It did not keep the curl so that is a big drawback for me. I don't have problems with some drugstore brands in application or keeping the curl. The brush is on the big side, so you can't get every lash. However, I have seen larger brushes and much worse mascaras. The good, it didn't flake once. Just not worth the high price tag compared to drugstore brands.

Shiseido The Makeup Lifting Foundation SPF 15 O00 Very Light Ochre 30ml/1oz
From Shiseido

The Makeup Lifting Foundation SPF 15 - O60 Natural Deep Ochre

Round the World Coverage5
I had thought about trying a Shiseido foundation in the past but hadn't done so because the prices were always extremely high. Then one day it suddenly occurred to me that Amazon might sell their products. Sure enough, I found page after page of Shiseido products for sale. When I received my order, I was surprised and pleased to see that it had shipped all the way from Hong Kong! Each time I receive something I've purchased through Amazon, I am struck by the realization that I am interacting with people from distant places, people I would most likely never have contact with otherwise. Even though it is remote contact, the packaging unique to each seller reminds me of this. Hong Kong is the longest distance to date but I feel certain that I will meet or exceed that at some point in the future. Thank you. And domo arigato gozaimasu, I love the Shiseido product I purchased.

Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary (Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetics Ingredients Dictionary)
By Natalia Michalun, Varinia Michalun

The second edition of this thorough reference is an invaluable tool for assessing cosmetic products, addressing both the quality of the product and the effect it has on the skin. Since a product's ultimate purpose is to benefit the skin, it is crucial to have an understanding of how the skin works, how and why a product may or may not penetrate it, and what care individual skin types and conditions may require. It is difficult to discuss product ingredients without correlating product performance to skin function. An expanded section on skin physiology and chemical concepts enables the reader to better understand product performance through a thorough explanation of how chemicals and ingredients interact. The various skin types, conditions, and appropriate ingredients for treatments provide a quick reference to address clients' needs. This enlarged second edition contains over 2,000 ingredients including 200 new and updated entries. Expanded information on antioxidants and their stability, new discussion on aging and sensitive skin, and function of SPF and new sunblock ingredients offering full spectrum sunscreen and sunblock for both UVA and UVB rays has been added.

Review
As a reference book, this book is a treasure. Written for an esthetician by an esthetician, and anyone who works in a salon, spa, or behind the cosmetic counter. This book not only explains in an easy-to-understand style what the ingredients in a skin care product are, but also tells you what they do, how safe they are, and what side effects they might have. The book also explains what the skin functions are, how products penetrate, and the different skin types and conditions. Whenever a student asks me at a lecture or seminar what books I recommend, the first book that comes to mind is Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary, by Natalia Michalun. This book is a must have for all students and estheticians.

Do you know what you REALLY cleanse your face with?5
An EXCEPTIONAL reference books / ingredient dictionary!
Have you ever wondered what those ingredients in your cleanser or make-up REALLY were? Now you can find out.

This comprehensive book not only includes an extensive list of ingredients and their uses/definitions & more...

(AN EXAMPLE: "linoleic acid (vitamin F) - an emulsifier. ...prevents dryness and roughness. A deficiency in linoleic acid in the skin is associated with symptoms similar to to those characterizing in eczema, psoriasis and a generally poor skin condition. ...is an essential fatty acid found in a variety of plant oils, including soybean and sunflower." )

...but the book also includes a chapter on skin types, conditions and appropriate ingredients for treatment that would provide a quick reference so address your (or your clients skin care needs), a thorough explanation of how chemicals and ingredients interact in cosmetics and more!

I HIGHLY recommend this book to skin care professionals and beauty connoseurs that want to know the "insider secrets".
I will never go a day of work (as an aesthetician) without this book!

Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary5
I have recently completed a course in Esthetics and have found the book to be helpful by changing technical terms and information into easily understood definitions and uses. The book is written by the same publisher as the text book that I studied from and found it to be easy reading and understandable. I would compare it to A Consumers Dictionary of Cosmetic Indegredients by Ruth Winter. Both are excellent reference books but I feel that Milady's uses general terms and applies to the break down of the product indegredients used in skin care and not just make-up application. I would highly recommend this book to skin care professionals.

Absolutely the best reference book on cosmetics ingredients5
Let me tell you, this book is worth every dollar, do not be scared off by the price! Over 2,000 ingredients reviewed in an easy to comprehend way, you don't have to be an expert in chemistry to find out what exactly is in your favourite cream - effective ingredients or just pore-clogging chemicals, preservatives and irritants! There are also 3 chapters on skin physiology, product penetration and skin types and conditions. I would highly recommend this book for consumers, cosmetics sales people and estheticians.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Tinted Moisturizer, Ivory To Fair Organics, 1.5-Ounces (Pack of 2)
From Physicians Formula

I Hate Giving Negative Reviews1
And try to just focus on the positive and review things I like. This product is an exception.
I really wanted to like this. Tinted moisterizer with spf sounds heavenly--coverage w/o looking like you're wearing a mask, moisterizer for the skin and sun protection all in one shot...and organic(I have sensitive skin so I have to be careful). It sounded like a dream product for me
I guess I'll start off on the positive side--it did provide sun protection. I burn so easily if I dont wear any spf..I didnt burn while wearing this. And like I said before, I have sensitive skin, so a lot of spf products irritate my skin, this one did not do that. It didnt burn, it didnt itch, it didnt turn red/blotchy. Very good sun protection. The color is pretty good too, not excellent, probably a high average
Now, for the reason I gave this 1 star. I have primarily dry skin(except for the T-zone, but its far from ultra oily). I didn't get pimples in middle school or high school or even adulthood, til I used this. I had 4 HUGE zits, whiteheads and all after 2 days of using this. Yes, I remove makeup before bed, and I even exfoliate everyday. I think I've had a total of 3 zits in my entire life before I used this. I have absolutely no idea how I could have gotten zits. I guess they took the moisterizer a bit too far
Physicians Formula is a very hit/miss company..and they really missed on this product, IMO
Wont buy this again

Painful!1
In order to draw a line on my lid with this pen, I had to press really hard, which in turn made my eyes hurt and water, and ruined the eyeliner. It was really hard to get a solid line out of it, it seemed like from the first use it was running out of liquid. I tried another Styli-Style product with similar results, and will never purchase this product again. Save your money, anything this company makes is a huge disapointment!

Delighted with purchase5
Could not find this brand locally; smooth transaction and fast shipping, I would buy from again.

How Not to Look Old works...5
I purchased the book How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better for my Kindle (obviously I have an Amazon jones, here). One of the excellent recommendations from the author was to use a clean, black eye-liner. She specifically recommended Styli-Style Liquid Liner 24. I ordered it.
It came. I use it everyday and look younger--or at least I feel younger with my new look.
If you're over 60 you need three things right now: The book, a Kindle and this eye-liner!

  • Dimensions: 1.06" h x 2.13" w x 2.13" l, .3 pounds

The Best I've Found5
This is my holy grail bronzer! I'm so glad that I tried it. I have had bad experiences in the past with shimmery bronzers (a huge mistake!) This does not make my face look like an oil slick--no shimmer! And best of all, it is a true brown color, not orange, and goes on effortlessly. I am quite pail, yet even when I don't use my Clarins self-tanner this doesnt make me look "muddy." Such a cute package too. The brush it comes with is purely for decoration--just use your big powder brush for a perfect application! The best.

A new member to the benefit family!5
Upon visiting my local benefit counter recently I was too excited to find this new, litte box of something so intruigingly cute. I have very pale skin so a bronzer of this sort certainly wouldnt be for me, right?
The woman at the counter swept a little Georgia on the apples of my cheeks, then a little swipe of our new freind Dallas directly above that and I no longer looked sickly and scared. It looked oh so natural and now Im hooked! Thanks Benefit for another save of the day!

Bronzer makes you tan, blush gives you pink...5
Great bronzer. I'm oily and can't wear any sparkly bronzers, which for quite awhile were the only things out there. Hoola is just brown and matte. I agree with the previous reviewer, the brush that comes with it doesn't work too hot. Invest in a blush brush. Hoola looks nice with Dandelion dusted over.

Sonia Kashuk® Synthetic Crease Brush
From Sonia Kashuk

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #316190 in Health and Beauty
  • Brand: Sonia Kashuk
  • Model: 233

great for creamy eye products4
This Sonia Kashuk crease brush is in the same line as the other curvy handled SK brushes in that it is marketed as higher quality than the white handled SK brushes. It has a hard plastic package and a nicer spot on the shelf. However it is not necessarily superior to the SK brush that rings up at 40% less.

Apart from price, there are two differences between the black curvy handled crease brush and the white standard handled crease brush: the handle length and grip, and the brush fibers. The white brush has natural bristles, the black brush has synthetic.

Both brushes are great, honestly. I think this black handle brush is a lot nicer to use for blending out cream and cream to powder products (think creamy pencils, shadow shade sticks, eye shadow paints, wet pigments, etc). The white handle brush is a bit nicer for pressed and loose powder products.

This black handle brush is great with nice bristles, that sturdy and long handle (you'll reach for this one first because it is easier to see), and a very nicely trimmed dome shape for blending in the eye socket. It doesn't seem to shed at all which is great.

The brush is easy to wash with baby shampoo and water or use your favorite brush cleanser. If you take care of it this brush should last you a long time. I took a star off because I think the extra packaging and fancy display (and therefore extra cost) distracts the buyer. If you can only afford one done brush, get the white handled one. It is more versatile and the price is a lot better.

not a blemish cover in this color...but an unbelievable under eye concealer5
I have yet to find an undereye lightener better than this one...I put it on under my foundation and I look instantly awake and vibrant with it concealing any darkness and lightening the area.

It should be noted that the ivory color is far too light for even the lightest porcelein skin and is meant for highlighting...if you want to conceal I would go with something darker because I am very pale and this highlights rather than hides. My Mary Kay consultant therefore advises it only for lightening in this color.

GREAT Concealer!5
I love this product. It lasts FOREVER! I use it strictly for blemish cover. As long as you buy the right shade for your complexion...it works beautifully! Lasts all day. It's much cheaper buying it online than from a consultant! Even WITH the shipping!
